About the Companion Card

What is the Companion Card?
The Companion Card is issued to people who, due to their disability, require lifelong attendant care support to participate at most community activities and venues.

Attendant care support includes significant assistance required with mobility, communication, self-care, or learning and planning, where the use of aids, equipment or alternative strategies does not enable the person to carry out these tasks independently.  It does not include providing only reassurance, social company or encouragement.

The Companion Card is also a tool to assist organisations that charge an admission or participation fee to comply with existing anti-discrimination legislation.

The card features a photograph of the cardholder and should be presented when booking or purchasing a ticket at events and venues, provided the cardholder requires attendant care support in order to participate at that particular activity. Affliated organisations will issue the cardholder with a second ticket for their companion at no charge.
